Founded in 1959, Natuzzi is a worldwide leading producer of leather sofas and Italy’s largest furniture manufacturer. But the humble beginnings of this company – and its founder, chairman and chief designer, Pasquale Natuzzi – make for an interesting lesson in history, one that teaches the importance of artisan craftsmanship passed down through the generations.

History in the Making

Born in Matera, Italy, in 1940, Pasquale Natuzzi worked alongside his father in the cabinetry business. At the young age of 19, the would-be furniture designer and entrepreneur struck out on his own and began crafting sofas and armchairs in his small workshop.

Employing the same skills and time-honored traditions used by his father in his business, Natuzzi continued to hone his craft, eventually transitioning to producing furniture on an industrial scale.

During a trip to the United States in the early ’80s, Natuzzi realized there was a considerable gap in the American furniture market – high-quality leather sofas were reserved only for the elite. He decided to bring leather seating to the masses on an international level, democratizing the leather sofa by offering a quality piece for a mere $999 at national department stores.

Natuzzi Editions, an extension of Natuzzi Italia, launched in 1972, and is headquartered in High Point, North Carolina, which is known as the Furniture Capital of the World.

With an illustrious career marked by passion, dedication and constant evolution, the values of the founder and namesake of Natuzzi Editions are reflected in every piece of furniture produced today.

The recipient of countless domestic and international awards, Natuzzi Editions consistently receives the highest accolades for its state-of-the-art designs. Pasquale Natuzzi even earned a spot in the American Furniture Hall of Fame.
